A note from BuildASoil
Over the last 13+ years, we've grown into a much better company — and a lot of that growth came directly from our critical reviews. Every 1, 2, or 3-star review on this page taught us something. New formulations, better packaging, improved shipping, clearer instructions, stronger customer support — almost all of it traces back to a customer who took the time to tell us what wasn't working.
If you haven't tried BuildASoil in a while — or you tried us early on and it didn't go great — we'd genuinely love another shot. We get better every year, and we have the receipts to prove it. See what's new at buildasoil.com →

I'll say the shipping sucked. Shipping is included in the price, so if you pay for overnight shipping and get it 2-3 days after it shipped. You will not get anything from anyone to compensate you for your loss.
Even though it says ships overnight and shipping included in price. I paid for it in the price of the product and didn't get over night shipping!

I ordered the blue oyster mushroom logs twice. The first time the logs were over two feet long and packed with substrate that grew pounds of blue oyster mushrooms as a bonus before i used it as mulch. So i reordered. The second blue oyster mushroom log order the logs were half the size not packed and did not grow anything at all and did not cover half as much as the first order as mulch. And it was more expensive the second time. So five stars the first time. One star for the second. Not sure if i will order that again and risk getting another order like the second.

I’ve bought quite a few bags of this vermicompost and usually love everything about it, unfortunately this most recent order overall seemed of lower quality than I expect from COWOCO. The texture felt more muddy and there were quite a few round buckle sized chunks that I broke down with my hands that almost feel more like a clay material than compost. Hopefully it’s a one off and scaling hasn’t affected the quality of all batches.

This is my third bottle of thermX- 70 and it does not create hardly any foam at all when used in same amounts as previous bottles.

Decent product but lack of screening of material. I found a giant bolt in my 2 pound bag while building my soil. Not sure if it’s a B.A.S issue with repacking or a OLY issue.
on Oly Mountain Fish Compost →I noticed none of the benefits I typically see with potassium silicate. Research has not backed this amendment up so I would stick to wollastonite or rice hulls (already in a lot of BAS mixes). Not very compatible with my soils as a top dress. No doubt some bacteria will fix some silicon from this amendment, but why not work with something proven?
Here is a paper comparing various silicon amendments:

I thought this version of the mulch was expensive for what it was. i purchased this hoping to get some blue oyster mushrooms from it, then use it as mulch since its so expensive. but the bag was loosly packed and must have been innoculated immediately before shipping becasue there was no mycellium in it. i put it in my closet to see how it would grow over a few months. but still for this price point, you would think it would be a fully colonized tightly packed bag. The logs used to better quality for our purposes in my opinion.

I had an amazing grow with lots of microbial life but unfortunately all of my ratios of NPK tested extremely low for the 6 Cubic feet kit. Thus, I had a vey low and poor yield. Great for vegging and cloning though because of the high potential for microbial life. Flavor was okay but nothing amazing.

Yeah mentioned what I thought in a email that hasn't been replayed to. Kits did not come with manure-based substrate and maxyeold bins are beat up, scratched, sagging bottoms, as their used for storage while sitting on shelf
on All-In-One Mushroom Growing Kit - Max Yield →It turns into quickrete once wet. I followed the recommended watering practices and still got root rot. Going back to FFOF, which was so much better.

Oh No!!! I swear it's worth it to learn how to use a living soil vs. a perlite based potting soil that you have to replace each use. We are here to help should you want to try again. The earthbox is a great way to use living soil for the first time as it takes out most of the learning curve with watering. Please reach out if you need any help. support@buildasoil.com

The clone box is great. Nice size. Opens and closes east enough.
The cubes are straight garbage. Every clone I’ve put into them has rotted. Will not be buying again.

Opened the bag to do a soil re-amend, dipped my measuring cup in and hit something hard and unable to scoop anything out. Opened the bag completely and pulled out a grey colored chunk the size of a mango, dumped the bag and found 2 more mango chunks and many smaller chunks. I called customer service and was told to use a hammer to break it up, that didn't work very well so I added 2 gallons of water to the chunks to reveal reddish brown chunks, I guess this was the Karanja cake, after 24 hours in the water it did break up easier, I'll let it dry for a week and add back to the mix... so not great..
on BuildASoil Craft Blend - Nutrient Pack →Reply from BuildASoil
That's awful! I'm sorry this happened to you. Sometimes the oils in the karanja meal can cause clumping. We are looking into a hammermill and other machinery that might help eliminate this completely. In the meantime if this is still an issue please don't hesitate to reach back out for a replacement.

Believe i may have over purchased on this. ordered a 6 inch to increase air flow circulation within a 4x8 tent indoor. temp going up to over 95 w humidity about 50. need to better manage situation on my end
on AC Infinity Cloudline PRO T8 - 8" Inline Fan with Temp & Humidity Control (Free Shipping) →Reply from BuildASoil
Running lights on during cooler hours like at night may help. Dimming your lights to keep temps optimal will allow you to cycle the fan less often which will help with humidity. Otherwise you can easily add A/C and or Humidity etc. If you need help we are here!

They sprayer works great but the red paint will chip around the top and prevent the gasket from sealing. It’s too expensive for it to not be usable because of a paint chip.

Not sure if it’s my ducting system or the fact that I live in Arizona but my humidifier is struggling to get my tent to 40%RH while it’s supposedly set to 60%RH and the poor humidifier is running on max . Which is quite sad considering the price of this smart humidifier. I expected much more.
on BuildASoil Humidifier →Reply from BuildASoil
This is for small area and if exhausting the air from your tent it won't be able to keep up. You can modify your fan to take our out less often or consider upgrading to a commercial humidifier. Sorry it didn't work as expected

I ordered three of the green gamma seal bucket lids and three of the heavy duty buckets as suggested by BAS. The problem is the bucket is slightly too big for the lid ring. I’ve tried a heat gun to try and get the last bit in but it’s not enough. When I finally got the lid almost on I checked and the gamma seal ring that you put on first completely spilt. I assume on the right size bucket they’d work great. However they didn’t fit the heavy duty grey buckets that BAS sells

Crazy we use them all the time. I stand above and push on both sides with straight arms using my body weight. They are a pain, but we want them tight. Did you create a support ticket? I'd like to help! Do you think the heat gun messed with it? Either way let us know.

Won't use this guy again for interpretation. I pretty much explained that I was doing a no-till organic living soil. Was given a bunch of recommendations for chemicals. Don't think he bothered to read my description of my setup.

I spent $120 on 3 fans and every single one broke! They stopped oscillating & the fan stopped spinning. If I balance them right they will partially work when not in oscillating mode.
I have opened one fan and partially modified the bottom gear to allow it to kind of work at almost full power, but its really a Huge flaw in the design.
(They didn't even last 1 grow cycle)
Last time I posted this review BAS took it down & I'm not sure why. I have proof of purchase & do not want a refund, all i ask is other people looking to buy this product know what their in for.
All this being said these fans are some of the strongest I've used at this size, definitely stronger than the 6in Hurricane fans. And I after some modifying I will hopefully be able to use them in my garden.
