I found the barley straw mulch to be messy and difficult to work with. I hadn't seen the video where Jeremy says wetting it helps to cut down on dust and likely helps it be a little more flexible. Once I had it on my 15 gallon fabric pots it was okay. It did improve the soils ability to retain water some. I didn't end up using it for long. It was just a hassle for me. Also made assessing the soils moisture level more difficult. You need to move the straw out of the way to get your finger down in the soil an inch or so and then cover it back up which usually led to more and more straw getting on the floor of the tent. I'm currently trying some red cedar wood shavings as mulch instead. The straw may work out better in a bed of soil. But for the pots I'll take a pass.

A cubic foot of straw is a pretty loose term since it doesn’t really account for density. I was expecting this to be stuffed more densely in the bag than what I received for the price. I realize that most of the price is to pay for shipping, so I figured it wouldn’t be hard to add more straw to these bags. This is the first build-a-soil product I haven’t been extremely happy with though.

The mulch is good. I used it in 6 3 gallon pots so far I had to cut it because it was long compared to the pots and I waned coverage on the edges. I had to cut it with scissors quite a bit to cover all edges. I only had 1 seed sprout from it so it is weed free pretty much. It comes with a tad of moisture in it, but not a bad thing.

I prefer the living mulch kind of straw but this kind works just fine.

I much prefer the living mulch straw log. The straw is a smaller more usable size and also better texture.

Straw(stalks)shouldn’t have seeds tops in it, so I have lots of barley growing in my pots and beds.
Overall it’s still a good product for the money and I would purchase again and recommend

I was using the barley straw for my pond and I did not feel that the description indicated how much you were getting in volume. When it said it was enough to mulch three plants I guess it was enough to do what I needed. I guessed wrong because their idea of mulching is not the same as mine. The picture shows a bushel basket and doesn't show you what size you are ordering.
