A note from BuildASoil
Over the last 13+ years, we've grown into a much better company — and a lot of that growth came directly from our critical reviews. Every 1, 2, or 3-star review on this page taught us something. New formulations, better packaging, improved shipping, clearer instructions, stronger customer support — almost all of it traces back to a customer who took the time to tell us what wasn't working.
If you haven't tried BuildASoil in a while — or you tried us early on and it didn't go great — we'd genuinely love another shot. We get better every year, and we have the receipts to prove it. See what's new at buildasoil.com →
I can't honestly give it more than three stars. The major problem with this rock dust is that it's clumpy, with a texture much closer to a clay than a "dust" or "flour." The description suggests that it "..does contain some water weight," and it's not wrong. It clumps together in soil, making even dispersion extremely difficult. I emailed customer service at BAS to ask about this, but never got a response. Either way, my soil works quite well with this as my only rock dust, but the effort that went into mixing it evenly was much, MUCH more than with other, drier rock dusts. I had to literally "de-clump" it between my fingers after moistening the soil. Going by the mineral analysis, this stuff has ample calcium and many trace minerals that are likely plant-available, so it's got some upsides, but I would recommend using this as part of a rock dust blend along with basic GRD and maybe basalt fines rather than using it as a stand-alone.

I asked for a recommendation of what soil product to try and received a product with no labeling no instruction no explanation. No idea what I have or how to optimize it's benefit effectively. Turns the shipping cost from a potential learning and good experience to just getting a bag of dirt. Well, I'm not sure if it is even dirt. No way to know what I got.
